Top 10 Wheels for Lyra, Tolarian Archangel

<p style="text-align: right;"><em><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Jiang Yanggu, Alone|FRA|246" href="#" target="_blank">Jiang Yanggu, Alone</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> | Art by <a href="https://burmak.artstation.com/">Dmitry Burmak</a></em></p>
<p>Friendly greetings, and welcome back to the <em>Magic</em> Multiverse. No, not that one, the <em>other</em> one. This is getting out of hand, now there are two of them! The dark lord Jace manifested an ill-conceived reset for reality, but it isn't all bad. I'm John Sherwood, playing to my outs in a matchup I wasn't prepared for. Maybe you can relate to this: your life is low, your opponent was on the beatdown the whole game, and you draw a card that makes you smile. That's been my whole relationship with <em>Magic</em> in 2026, and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Jiang Yanggu, Alone" href="#" target="_blank">Jiang Yanggu, Alone</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is one of those cards for me.</p>
<h2>Dog-less Doppelganger</h2>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Jiang Yanggu, Alone"></div></div>
<p>Desparked and deprived of his canine companion, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Jiang Yanggu, Alone" href="#" target="_blank">Jiang Yanggu, Alone</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> understandably identifies with a more emotional color. The flavor text says it all: <em>"His best friend was gone. Someone has to pay."</em></p>
<p>In this deck, Jiang teams up with new friends to make opponents pay dearly in combat. He leverages menace and +1/+1 counters to pressure opponents into taking damage or making bad blocks.</p>
<p>His triggered ability upgrades a familiar template. Payoffs for a creature attacking alone entered mainstream design space during <em>Alara</em> block with the ability word exalted. Jiang Yanggu, Alone inserts the words" a player" into the exalted template. Let's check the reminder text on <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Noble Hierarch|CON|87" href="#" target="_blank">Noble Hierarch</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> for comparison.</p>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Noble Hierarch|CON|87"></div></div>
<p>Exalted <em>(Whenever a creature you control attacks alone, that creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.)</em></p>
<p>Jiang says, "Whenever a creature you control attacks a player alone..." Two extra words make a world of difference in Commander. It's less restrictive than exalted, because it applies separately to each opponent.</p>
<p>Honestly, I missed the nuance the first time I read the card. I'll pin that mistake on my initial excitement for an opportunity to run a pet card: <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Tempered in Solitude" href="#" target="_blank">Tempered in Solitude</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>.</p>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Tempered in Solitude"></div></div>
<p>My rough draft of the deck looked a lot like a mono-red <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Rafiq of the Many" href="#" target="_blank">Rafiq of the Many</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. If lone wolf attackers appeal to you, check out the update I did for <a href="https://edhrec.com/articles/rebuilding-rafiq-of-the-many-with-marvel-super-heroes">Rafiq in conjunction with Marvel Super Heroes</a>.</p>
<p>I love a <a href="https://edhrec.com/tags/voltron">Voltron</a> deck, but eventually I realized I was on the wrong track. Once I figured out I could attack more than one player and apply Jiang's ability to one attacker per opponent, the gameplan changed and the deck leveled up.</p>
<p>Of course, Voltron decks tend to live and die by that proverbial lonely basket for all the eggs. Jiang overcomes Voltron turns each opponent's life total into a separate, and bombards each of those baskets with an equal quantity of eggs. What's more, he can do it all without risking his own neck. Jiang doesn't need to attack for the strategy to work.</p>
<h2>Edge Case</h2>
<p>Inserting "a player" into the template for exalted also resulted in an edge case for attacking permanents instead of players. Planeswalkers and Battles are not players, meaning any creatures attacking those objects don't count toward the "attacks a player alone" qualifier.</p>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="The Theorist, Jace Beleren"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Invasion of Kaldheim"></div></div>
<p>Jiang Yanggu, Alone will still resolve if you punch Jace in his smug face, or swing for a Battle like <span class="edhrecp__link only-front"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Invasion of Kaldheim" href="#" target="_blank">Invasion of Kaldheim</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>.</p>
<h2>Order of Operations</h2>
<p>Clearly, a Commander-coded version of attacking alone has advantages. However, it's not as simple as just turning one creature sideways at each opposing player. Maximizing the benefit of Jiang's ability calls for specific sequencing. He's counting the number of discarded cards before resolution of the ability.</p>
<p>Conventional competitive <em>Magic</em> wisdom advises casting spells in the second main phase. Counting cards already discarded breaks that convention by rewarding us for resolving discard effects before declaring attackers.</p>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Raphael&#039;s Technique"></div></div>
<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Raphael&#039;s Technique" href="#" target="_blank">Raphael&#039;s Technique</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is an instant with the sneak alternate casting cost. While the spell has the speed to be responsive in a variety of situations, this deck will be happy to cast it pre-combat.</p>
<p>It will be most beneficial to time as many discards as possible before resolving Jiang's attack trigger. This could be in the first main phase, on the stack after declaring attacks, or before extra combats.</p>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Port Razer"></div></div>
<p>Additional combat steps become a snowball of additional power thanks to Jiang Yanggu, Alone. As long as the attackers survive, they will get bigger on each subsequent combat step, as Jiang piles on the +1/+1 counters. Any creatures able to create multiple combats in a turn, like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Port Razer" href="#" target="_blank">Port Razer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> or <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Bloodthirster" href="#" target="_blank">Bloodthirster</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, escalate the friendly snowball fight into a hailstorm.</p>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Bloodthirster"></div></div>
<p>With all of that in mind, the preferred order of operations for this deck is discard, attack, untap and attack again. Since we're doing extra combats, this deck would be more socially suited to Bracket 3 than Bracket 2, where chaining multiple attack steps can feel like chaining extra turns.</p>
<h2>Other Attack Triggers</h2>
<p>Discard and aggro are the rough themes in the deck. Tossing in some extra attack triggers smooths off the coarse edges.</p>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Cosmic Cube"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Doom&#039;s Time Platform"></div></div>
<p>Red struggles enough with card advantage without intentionally pitching cards into the graveyard every turn. This is an aggressive, all-gas-no-brakes kind of deck. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Cosmic Cube" href="#" target="_blank">Cosmic Cube</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> supports the full throttle approach by casting spells from the library, bypassing the rest of the deck's wanton disregard for cards in hand. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Doom&#039;s Time Platform" href="#" target="_blank">Doom&#039;s Time Platform</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is slower than Cosmic Cube, but it's still casting spells for free.</p>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Inti, Seneschal of the Sun"></div></div>
<p>A seneschal manages the affairs of a feudal estate. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Inti, Seneschal of the Sun" href="#" target="_blank">Inti, Seneschal of the Sun</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> lives up to that job description, managing the commander's business like a trusted vassal. Both a discard outlet, and a discard payoff, Inti makes a strong second in command.</p>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Puppet Master, String Puller"></div></div>
<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Puppet Master, String Puller" href="#" target="_blank">Puppet Master, String Puller</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> lacks the hair for 1980s metal, but it still rocks. I love the versatility of goad as a deterrent, soft removal, or just a little mayhem. The Puppet Master's additional restriction on blocking and incidental Treasure tokens harmonize perfectly with this deck's title track. Cue <a href="https://youtu.be/6xjJ2XIbGRk?si=CvOdnMnq03e-iFQV"><em>Master of Puppets</em> by Metallica</a>.</p>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Jocasta, Automaton Avenger"></div></div>
<p>If you blindfolded me and read me this textbox, then I would have guessed it was a Phoenix. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Jocasta, Automaton Avenger" href="#" target="_blank">Jocasta, Automaton Avenger</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> flies out of the graveyard into combat. Go ahead and discard it, because it won't stay in the graveyard. Conveniently, entering tapped and attacking means it bypasses the declare attackers step, meaning Jocasta may attack any player without affecting the conditions for another creature to benefit from Jiang's ability.</p>
<h2>Discard Support</h2>
<p>Supporting a discard theme comes in two main forms: recapitalizing discarded cards and triggered abilities with discard payoffs.</p>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Currency Converter"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Bag of Holding"></div></div>
<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Currency Converter" href="#" target="_blank">Currency Converter</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Bag of Holding" href="#" target="_blank">Bag of Holding</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> are kind of like discard money laundering. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Containment Construct" href="#" target="_blank">Containment Construct</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> has a shorter turn around time, but it still helps to keep discarded cards in circulation for other uses. All three of these effects recapitalize discarded cards in their own way.</p>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Ivora, Insatiable Heir"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Marauding Mako"></div></div>
<p>Several creatures in the deck net +1/+1 counters in response to discarding cards. Ivora, Insatiable Heir not only gets bigger with every pitched card, she also has trample and produces more discard opportunities in the form of Blood tokens. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Marauding Mako" href="#" target="_blank">Marauding Mako</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is never dead in hand. It's good in the early game to develop into a threat, and good later when more valuable discard engines are online.</p>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Magmakin Artillerist"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Spider-Man, New Champion"></div></div>
<p>I like decks with a backup plan for the same reason I like modal spells: I'm an opportunist. A few of the deck's creatures provide an opportunity to win outside of combat. Discarding cards can translate to direct damage with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Magmakin Artillerist" href="#" target="_blank">Magmakin Artillerist</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> or <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Spider-Man, New Champion" href="#" target="_blank">Spider-Man, New Champion</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Smaller burn increments can add up to big life swings with friends like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Glint-Horn Buccaneer" href="#" target="_blank">Glint-Horn Buccaneer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>.</p>
<p>Game designers give cake to <em>Magic</em> players and encourage us to eat it with increasing frequency. Discard support is no exception, especially with cards like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Surly Badgersaur" href="#" target="_blank">Surly Badgersaur</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Monument to Endurance" href="#" target="_blank">Monument to Endurance</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>.</p>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Surly Badgersaur"></div></div>
<p>Rawr. This dinosaur is a discard toolkit, if you can afford to be selective with each discard. For those bigger hand dumps, the process might be less refined, but the payoffs will still be a blast to resolve. Getting bigger, making Treasures, and removing opponents' creatures are all fine rewards for pitching cards.</p>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Monument to Endurance"></div></div>
<p>One mode a time, Amonkhet's new monument does everything a discard player needs. It replaces a discarded card, banks mana, and progresses the game toward a favorable end. The limit of three resolutions per turn is a bit of a bummer, but the benefits are well worth that minor downside.</p>
<h2><a href="https://mtg.wiki/page/Wheel">Wheels</a></h2>
<p>The beating heart of many discard decks is the wheel spells, like the original <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Wheel of Fortune" href="#" target="_blank">Wheel of Fortune</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, which I excluded from the final list out of disdain for the Reserved List. Anyway, Jiang Yanggu, Alone isn't missing it. Like the extra combat effects, Jiang benefits more from a wheel on a stick.</p>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Smellerbee, Rebel Fighter"></div></div>
<p>Admittedly, Smellerbee might be underutilized with Jiang. Drawing cards equal to attackers is great, unless the deck is intentionally limiting the number of attackers. Conceptually, they could conflict, but I think in practice Jiang and Smellerbee will present a flexible range of discard and draw options to adapt to the board state.</p>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Runehorn Hellkite"></div></div>
<p>Another card that flexes to different scenarios, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Runehorn Hellkite" href="#" target="_blank">Runehorn Hellkite</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is useful in multiple zones. It's a Dragon, with the native advantages of evasion and a big body, so Jiang can leverage it in combat. In hand, it's great discard fodder, setting up to activate a wheel from the graveyard.</p>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Connecting the Dots"></div></div>
<p>A build-your-own wheel, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Connecting the Dots" href="#" target="_blank">Connecting the Dots</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is a multi-turn investment. Where most wheels cost five or six mana, this one trades cost for time. Even if the setup doesn't reach full potential, it's still a discard outlet with a cheap activation cost. Under the right conditions, Jiang doesn't actually need to recover any exiled cards from Connecting the Dots; the value from the discards can be reward enough.</p>
<p>That covers the main beats of the deck. Let's look at the list.</p>

<h2>Final Pitch</h2>
<p>In the end, we get a new spin on a familiar character, a new angle to build aggro in Commander, and a home for some awesome red effects that don't see a lot of play. I like everything about this commander, which is rare and invigorating for me these days.</p>
<p>Do you see another angle to build <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Jiang Yanggu, Alone" href="#" target="_blank">Jiang Yanggu, Alone</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>? Are there any obvious picks I missed? What is your favorite echoverse legend? Tell us in the comments.</p>

Jian Yanggu, Alone | Discard Aggro Bracket 3 Beatdown

<p style="text-align: right;"><em><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Wheel of Fortune" href="#" target="_blank">Wheel of Fortune</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> | Art by <a href="https://scryfall.com/search?q=artist%3A%22Daniel+Gelon%22" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Daniel Gelon</a></em></p>
<p>Red is black's reckless other half in cEDH. Bursts of mana, card draw - impulse and otherwise - plus an eclectic blend of unique effects set red apart as the fastest color in cEDH.</p>
<p>Need one more turn to win? Red has you covered...at a price? What about a refreshed hand? Sure, but everyone else gets one, too. Games are won and lost at a razor's edge, and red treads that line with wild glee.</p>
<p>Here are the top five red cards for cEDH.</p>
<h2>#5 - <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Deflecting Swat" href="#" target="_blank">Deflecting Swat</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span></h2>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Deflecting Swat"></div></div>
<p>First up on our list is red's premier piece of (usually) free interaction: Deflecting Swat.</p>
<p>For <span class="mana-container-container"><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-2" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-r" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span></span>, Deflecting Swat is an instant that allows you to change the targets of target spell or ability. Additionally, you can cast Deflecting Swat without paying its mana cost if you control a commander.</p>
<p>It might not say "counter target counterspell" on it, but very often that's exactly what Deflecting Swat does. Thanks to a fun quirk of the rules, Deflecting Swat can be used to change the target of a counterspell (<span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Force of Will" href="#" target="_blank">Force of Will</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Fierce Guardianship" href="#" target="_blank">Fierce Guardianship</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, etc.) to Deflecting Swat itself.</p>
<p>So, while Deflecting Swat is resolving but still on the stack, it will change the target of the chosen counterspell, then Deflecting Swat will be put into a graveyard. Afterwards, when the counterspell tries to resolve, it won't see a valid target and as such will go straight to the graveyard, too.</p>
<p>Three mana is a tall ask in cEDH, but the absolute buffet of cheap red commanders makes this a much smaller concern. As long as Rograkh is in your colors, you know you're working with cheap spells.</p>
<h2>#4 - <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Final Fortune" href="#" target="_blank">Final Fortune</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span></h2>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Final Fortune"></div></div>
<p>Next up is cEDH's premier means of taking extra turns (well, outside of <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Tivit, Seller of Secrets" href="#" target="_blank">Tivit, Seller of Secrets</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>), and that's Final Fortune.</p>
<p>For <span class="mana-container-container"><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-r" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-r" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span></span>, Final Fortune is an instant that grants you an extra turn after this one. The cost? You lose the game at the beginning of that turn's end step. Simple, cheap, and oh so valuable.</p>
<p>Final Fortune is the perfect testament to just how much a single turn matters in cEDH. Plenty of games already end on the first turn; thanks to Final Fortune, games can also end on a player's second turn and still before anyone else has taken a turn (just watch a turbo deck cast Final Fortune on turn one in seat one and you'll see what I mean).</p>
<h2>#3 - <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Wheel of Fortune" href="#" target="_blank">Wheel of Fortune</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span></h2>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Wheel of Fortune"></div></div>
<p>At third place is the biggest "fair" burst of card draw in cEDH: Wheel of Fortune. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Timetwister" href="#" target="_blank">Timetwister</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> may be the most expensive wheel in the format, but Wheel of Fortune is the card that named this effect.</p>
<p>For <span class="mana-container-container"><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-2" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-r" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span></span>, Wheel of Fortune is a sorcery that causes each player to discard their hands and draw seven new cards. So, what's the big deal, especially since you're the one spending mana to give your opponents cards?</p>
<p>First off, control over when you cast Wheel of Fortune is a power in and of itself. If a player has a hand greater than seven cards or has just cast a tutor, both of those are examples of excellent opportunities to capitalize on hand disruption.</p>
<p>Secondly, since you're the first person with access to those cards (the sorcery-speed ones, at least), then you'll be the first one to set up with the newfound resources.</p>
<p>Finally - part of the reason this is better than Timetwister - sometimes you just need to stock your graveyard. Whether it's to feed mayhem costs or enable <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Underworld Breach" href="#" target="_blank">Underworld Breach</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> (more on that in a bit), there's plenty of reasons to use the graveyard.</p>
<h2>#2 - <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Jeska&#039;s Will" href="#" target="_blank">Jeska&#039;s Will</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span></h2>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Jeska&#039;s Will"></div></div>
<p>Next up is the second hallmark of red card advantage: impulse draw, brought to you by Jeska's Will.</p>
<p>For <span class="mana-container-container"><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-2" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-r" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span></span>, Jeska's Will is a sorcery with two modes: you can either exile the top three cards of your library, with the option of casting those cards until end of turn, or you can add an amount of <span class="mana-container-container"><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-r" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span></span> equal to the number of cards in target opponent's hand.</p>
<p>However, if you control a commander as you cast Jeska's Will, you can choose both modes.</p>
<p>First, just a brief reiteration - red is the color of <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh" href="#" target="_blank">Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. When playing red, you probably have a cheap Commander, which means you'll probably choose both modes more often that not. Now that's a lot of value.</p>
<p>On their own, each mode of Jeska's Will is already potent across the course of the game. Jeska's Will usually adds between five and seven red mana, putting it close to <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Cabal Ritual" href="#" target="_blank">Cabal Ritual</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> in terms of net-mana gain.</p>
<p>On the impulse draw front, don't underestimate the rate of three cards for three mana. It's not the best, but it's incredibly good considering the powerful flexibility this thing offers.</p>
<h2>#1 - <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Underworld Breach" href="#" target="_blank">Underworld Breach</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span></h2>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Underworld Breach"></div></div>
<p>Alrighty folks, here we are, the win condition to end all win conditions: Underworld Breach.</p>
<p>For <span class="mana-container-container"><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-1" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-r" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span></span>, Underworld Breach is an enchantment with, among other things, a trigger to sacrifice it at the beginning of the end step. While it's around, however, cards in your graveyard have escape, and the escape cost is equal to that card's mana cost plus exile three cards from your graveyard.</p>
<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Yawgmoth&#039;s Will" href="#" target="_blank">Yawgmoth&#039;s Will</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is a broken card, and that spell doesn't let you recast the same spell multiple times (cards put into your graveyard while Yawgmoth's Will is in effect are exiled instead). Underworld Breach costs one mana fewer and, despite requiring that you have some cards to pitch to the escape cost, allows you to continuously feed your graveyard while the effect is active.</p>
<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Brain Freeze" href="#" target="_blank">Brain Freeze</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Grinding Station" href="#" target="_blank">Grinding Station</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Wheel of Fortune" href="#" target="_blank">Wheel of Fortune</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>; the list of cards that can accidentally wind up giving you an infinite combo with Underworld Breach is pretty absurdly long.</p>
<h2>Wrap Up</h2>
<p>Red is the color of speed. Cheap spells, bursts of mana, flexible win conditions, and all sorts of wild card draw. When you see red in a cEDH pod, keep an eye out; it might not have the flash enablers of blue, or its counterspells, but it has its own ways to fight the stack battles and steal a turn from out of nowhere.</p>
