Dragon Shield's newest line of Magic: The Gathering-themed sleeves launches on Friday, August 14th. Luckily, I got the wonderful opportunity to review the line ahead of time! <h2>Ten Guilds, 100 Sleeves, Plenty of Customization</h2>
Speaking as a fan of the ten guilds of Ravnica, these sleeves are absolutely perfect for two-color decks in aesthetic. That said, Wizards of the Coast is certainly not above making additional watermarks or signets for other planes of existence within Magic. However, until we get a Lorehold-themed set of sleeves that are this pleasing to hold, I'll be sticking with the Boros Guild sleeves for my <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Quintorius, History Chaser" href="#" target="_blank">Quintorius, History Chaser</a> deck. Dragon Shield was gracious enough to send me all ten sets of sleeves for my verdict on them. Nevertheless, for this particular article, I'll be showcasing the Rakdos sleeves, with the firm expectation that each set is going to be similar, albeit with the obvious aesthetic differences.

The sleeves themselves are dual-matte with two color tones. The inside of each set's sleeves is one solid color, while the back is two-tone, printed with the respective guild's signet/watermark. They're fancy and look great.
At an MSRP of $24.99 per pack of 100 dual matte sleeves, these sleeves are at a bit of a heftier price than your average sleeves. However, for some players, you cannot put a price on presentation! This is partly why I'm so thrilled to bedeck my two-color decks in these where it matters.
<h2>The Practicality Review: How Do These Fit?</h2>
The sleeves in the Guildpact Series fit my Commander decks really nicely. For instance, the Rakdos sleeves, which I decided to put my <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Kuja, Genome Sorcerer" href="#" target="_blank">Kuja, Genome Sorcerer</a> deck into, felt like they fit the deck snugly. They aren't fitting with too much resistance, but also aren't loose on the cards, either. These sleeves fit great; that's my point.

Furthermore, no air pockets formed when sleeving my cards in. To that end, I'm really impressed by the Guildpact Series.
<h2>More Practicality: How Do These Shuffle?</h2>
The Guildpact Series handles really well, too. When going into my shuffle test, I was able to shuffle these well without any slippage or wear to the sleeves. This unslipping characteristic is mostly thanks to the matte back. But the durability of these sleeves lends itself to the general lack of wear, as well!

<h2>Conclusion</h2>
Even more so than the two-tone dual matte sleeves I reviewed in July, I really like these sleeves in look and feel. If you're in the market for higher-end sleeves, I'd suggest that this is where your search might end. Depending on the deck, of course.

<h2>Three New Styles of Matte Duals</h2>
As the featured image for this article suggests, there are three new Matte Dual styles available as of Friday, July 10th. Those styles are:

<li>Soul &amp; Petrol</li>

For the sake of review purposes, and because I only had one deck that presently needed sleeving, I decided to specifically examine the Black &amp; Gold sleeves. I was a bit surprised with how these turned out; I didn't come in with any expectations, but I didn't realize that the gold side would be the inside of the sleeve. This consequently looks quite interesting in effect!

<h2>Sleeving With Dragon Shield Matte Duals</h2>
Sleeving cards with these also feels really satisfying. As any Commander player can tell you, it's generally an exercise in tedium to fit a whole 100-card deck into sleeves.
Usually, I've found that this issue stems from making sure the sleeves are open enough to receive the cards and then snug enough to fit them well (especially without air pockets). I have not had this problem with these Dragon Shield sleeves, which, to me, is a huge boon!

<h2>Shuffling With Dragon Shield</h2>
The real test then began: how would these sleeves shuffle? As mentioned above, I managed to sleeve the entire 99 of my newest yet-unsleeved deck with the Black &amp; Gold sleeves (<a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Kelsien, the Plague" href="#" target="_blank">Kelsien, the Plague</a>, if you're interested). I don't riffle or bridge shuffle, as I am too concerned about bends in my cards from that level of wear.
However, I did a bit of pile shuffling and then just interlocked the piles together a few times. This is how I normally get my shuffles done (and yes, it's a lot of randomization overall).
I'd say that because these sleeves held up as well as they did, they passed with flying colors. We will see how they do in a few months, but frankly, I expect they'll still be in fine condition then, too.
<h2>Conclusion</h2>
These new Matte Duals are very interesting. I really like them for their stylistic colorations, as well as how they handle in my hand when sleeving, shuffling, and playing. I'm giving these high marks!

Putting your cards into a regular card sleeve is very simple. All you have to do is slide the card into the protective pouch of the sleeve until it reaches the other end, with the card's face on the side of the sleeve's clear side.

But be careful not to apply too much pressure to any one spot on the card as you do, since this can cause damage to the card.
If you feel too much resistance as you slide the card in, apply pressure to a different spot or try a different method.
If you're double-sleeving your card, you'll put the card into the inner sleeve first, then slide the card into the regular sleeve.

TCG sleeves are not all the same size. So it's important that you pick the right size for your Magic cards.
You'll want to look for the term "standard size." These sleeves are sized to fit Magic cards, which are measured at 2.5 inches by 3.5 inches (63.5mm by 88.9mm).
Make sure to avoid any sleeves that say "Japanese size," as these won't fit Magic cards. These sleeves are smaller, and used for card games like Yu-Gi-Oh! and Cardfight!! Vanguard.
There are also sleeve types known as "inner" or "outer." While these card sleeves will fit your Magic cards, they're intended to be used only for double- and triple-sleeving.
We'll talk about this a bit more later in the guide, but just know that inner and outer sleeves shouldn't be used on their own, but in addition to regular, standard size sleeves.

TCG sleeves come in various quantities, so it's important to know what quantity to buy. If you're buying sleeves for a deck, particularly a Commander deck, you'll want to get a 100-count sleeve package.
If you're getting sleeves just for card storage, then you can buy however many you need for your collection.

Here's where things get tricky. There are a vast number of card sleeve types that you can use. And what you use will be entirely up to how you want your sleeves to look and feel.
Every sleeve manufacturer has their own product lineup, but we'll do our best to cover common terms across brands. Here are a list of terms you'll see frequently and what they mean.
Toploading/sideloading - This refers to which side of the sleeve the card will slide into. Toploaders are most common.
Matte/Gloss - This refers to how shiny the surface of the sleeve is.
Penny sleeves - These are ultra cheap sleeves, only meant to be used for card storage. Do not buy them to use for decks.
Inner/outer sleeves - These are used for double- or triple-sleeving your decks. They don't replace the standard sleeves, but are used in addition to them, as added protection.

Another popular sleeve brand is Ultra Pro, a company that has been around for over 70 years. Many players will recognize Ultra Pro as a common purveyor of binders, sleeves, deckboxes with recognizable Magic art on them.
